Marie Griffioen LLMSW
Therapist | DBT-Informed | Compassion-Focused Care Hi, I’m Marie. I believe that the foundation of any successful therapy is a strong, safe, and compassionate relationship between therapist and client. Research supports what I’ve always felt intuitively—therapy works best when you feel truly seen, heard, and accepted. That’s why I prioritize building trust and creating a space where you feel safe enough to bring your full self into the room. I work with a wide range of people and am always open and honored to meet clients wherever they’re at in life. That said, I’ve found that I’m especially skilled at working with adolescents and women. My clients often come to me dealing with complex trauma, personality disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADD, and other challenges—and together, we build a collaborative, supportive plan toward healing and growth. My approach is deeply grounded in compassion, curiosity, and evidence-based care. I draw from modalities like DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and always center the work around your unique needs and goals. I regularly seek feedback from my clients because I want to make sure our work together feels useful, supportive, and empowering for you. I'm committed to cultural humility and to being a safe place for folks from all walks of life. I care deeply about making therapy accessible and meaningful, especially for those who’ve experienced oppression or felt unheard in other spaces. I also draw on my own lived experiences, which adds depth and empathy to my clinical work. Outside of the therapy room, I’m a mom of four, a Grand Rapids local, and a lover of true crime podcasts, Zumba, and travel. Life is complex, messy, and beautiful—and I’m here to help you navigate yours with warmth, honesty, and support. If you’re ready to start therapy or just curious about what it might look like, I’d love to connect. "
